Progress reports went home at the end of last week in all 5th and 6th grade classes!  Please review your child's progress report with him or her.  It is so important to discuss, in depth, the habits of mind section.  We hope that these progress reports provide a snapshot of where students are currently and that the opportunity to review them with you is a learning experience.  When students and families use these tools to reflect on the progress students are making and how they can improve, they work wonders in helping students to find success!  Please sign the progress report and have your child return it to school on Monday!

Mr. Bret, our compost assistant celebrated a birthday this week!  We all chose to celebrate!  The time Mr. Bret has been able to spend at our school will be coming to an end very soon.  We feel lucky to have had him with us to take on a very important job!  We wish him well!

Lastly, the whole 5th and 6th grade team met with Mr. Foxall this week to review expectations and to check in with how things are going!  One very important reminder that came out of the meeting is related to winter dress for recess.  So long as the weather permits, we will have recess and students are expected to participate.  Please remind students that in order to enjoy recess they must have long pants (and snow pants if possible), a jacket, hat, mittens/gloves and boots.  We want all of our students to be safe while getting the fresh air they need everyday!

Fifth and Sixth Grade Progress Reports are Coming Home This Week...

We have begun the second half of Trimester Two. This week, both fifth and sixth graders will receive Trimester Two Progress Reports for their core classes. These progress reports are a "snapshot" of academic progress during the first half of Trimester Two. If you have any questions about your fifth or sixth grade student's progress report, please contact us. We look forward to the second half of Trimester Two and our 2016-17 school year.

Hello Everyone,

We hope that you all have had a great weekend. The 5th and 6th graders did a wonderful job last week welcoming Mrs. Rose back after break. They were excited to tell her about all of the things that they had done while she was at home with her baby.

One of the fun things that both 5th and 6th grade did this past week was to do a "School Wide Writing Prompt".  That means that everyone in the school got a chance to take time to write about the same thing. The prompt was, "What can we do to improve our school?" The students came up with a wide range of ideas and some wrote for 2 or 3 pages. This was an enjoyable write for the students and a great read for all of the teachers. The teachers got a chance to use the writings as professional development, as well as thinking about how they can help their students possibly make some of their ideas come true.

One of the other nice things happened at the end of last week. On Friday at community meeting the 6th graders were recognized by Mr. Foxall for receiving "Honors" or "High Honors" on their report card in the first Trimester of school. We have included some pictures of this below.

For up coming events, the 5th grade will be on a field trip this Friday. They will be celebrating their reading of "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen and be out with the Rivendell Trails coordinator this Friday.

     Have a great week everyone!
     Sincerely,
The 5th and 6th Grade Team :)
