Hello Everyone,

We hope you all had a safe and Happy Thanksgiving break! The whole school had an amazing time sharing a Thanksgiving meal with their grandparents last Wednesday. Everyone pitched in to make the day a great success! The 6th graders had many important roles at the dinner and did us all proud. They walked all of our visitors to the appropriate rooms to be with their grandchildren. They worked as a well oiled machine helping to serve meals, deliver cookies, and take down the seating and clean up the tables once our meal was over. Congratulations 6th graders!!! You all did a wonderful job and we are so proud of the kindness and maturity that  you displayed to everyone!

Here are a few pictures of Russ and some of our 6th graders handing out cookies.

PS: Here are a couple of photos of an amazing hot air balloon that almost landed on our play ground just the week before Thanksgiving.

Also, as a quick reminder, report cards went out after the Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday. If you have any questions please feel free as always to contact your student's teacher.

Have a wonderful day!

Sincerely, The 5th and 6th Grade Team

Activity Afternoon on Tuesday This Week

Activity Afternoons are a positive and popular tradition for students at Rivendell. They offer students an opportunity to socialize, play sports, board games, video games, listen to music and/or dance, and just relax. We do "potluck" snacks. We rely on parent volunteers to make these events happen. At least two teacher volunteers serve as teacher chaperones during the event.

When Rivendell Academy began in 2000, "Activity Nights" for middle school students were carried over from the Orford School tradition and continue to this day. When sixth grade was transferred to the elementary schools several years ago, and fifth and sixth grades were "departmentalized", well, as one student put it, "We're the new middle school." We continued the tradition of Activity Nights, eventually transitioned to afternoon times, and "Activity Afternoons" continue this week.

We offer to hold these events once each trimester. Students are required to bring in a permission slip which states they have permission to stay after school for the event and who will pick them up at 5:30 PM. There is a $2.00 admission fee (scholarships are available). All profits go the the SME Student Council account and are used to benefit Samuel Morey Elementary School projects.

Prior to the event, students decide on a recently released movie to enjoy; student council members volunteer to play music; a student may volunteer to bring a video game station and remotes to share. Did I mention that we do "potluck" snacks? Our fifth and sixth graders are hungry by 3:15 PM.

Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to serve as chaperones this Tuesday from 3:15 PM to 5:30 PM. Thank you in advance to parents of students who will participate in the Activity Afternoon for arranging to pick your 5th or 6th grader at 5:30 PM. The late bus is also an option.

Our Harvest Luncheon is coming up on Wednesday, November 23rd. Our sixth graders have a tradition as our student leaders at SME of helping to set up for the lunch before hand. They will greet our grandparent guests at the door and escort them to the gymnasium or the classroom where they will be sharing a meal with their grandchildren and other students.  Sixth graders will help with making sure everyone is served their meal. When all is set, our sixth graders will enjoy their meal with other students and grandparents. When the meal is finished, sixth graders will help with clean up. It is a fine tradition and we look forward to this year's sixth graders continuing this good work!
